Library

The Challenge Chapter has donated our library of fly fishing books and videos to the Crawford County Library in Grayling, Michigan. Our library joins an extensive collection of reference material dedicated to the art and science of fly fishing. The Grayling Public Library houses the second largest private fly fishing library in the United States. Additionally, the library houses the George Griffith and Marion Wright Memorial Collection. These are accessable to the public, so stop by and visit the library on your next journey to the Grayling area.

Fishing the Au Sable by Ogden Pleissner

This beautiful oil painting was commissioned by the J.L. Hudson Company of Detroit and later donated to the Michigan Department of Natural Resources. Fishing the Au Sable portrays the river as it was for fisherman in the days before canoe liveries. It hangs above the fireplace at the MacMullen Conference Center in Roscommon, Mich. The Chapter obtained permission to reproduce the original and arranged with Mr. Pleissner to produce 275 lithographic copies. Chapter members Tudor ApMadoc, Milton Coulson and Reed Alexander took the finished prints to Manchester, Vt., to be present as each was signed by Mr. Pleissner.
